The NSSO Chorus

To celebrate our 25th anniversary we established The NSSO Chorus to offer opportunities for enthusiastic choral singers aged 11-19 to take part in unique projects and performances.

The NSSO Chorus made its debut, with the NSSO Main Orchestra, singing the Verdi Requiem at Symphony Hall, Birmingham in July 2019 under the baton of Richard Dickins (NSSO Principal Conductor).

The week long course at Malvern College will run alongside the NSSO orchestral and conducting courses. There will be daily rehearsals and coaching, as well as masterclasses and workshops.  Singers will also take part in the extensive sporting and social activities in the College’s superb facilities.

The Chorus master, Jonathan Brown, is also the Director of Music at Malvern College and conducts the Malvern Festival Chorus.

Applicants from all schools will be accepted on the recommendation of their Director/Head of Music without a formal audition.

We offer both residential and non-residential places.

For non-resident singers

The day starts at 9:00am with a Warm Up Workshop and ends at 6:00pm, except on the evening when there is a joint choral/orchestral rehearsal, when it will end at 8:30pm.

Lunch and break-time refreshments are included in the course fee, as is supper on the evening of the joint rehearsals, all tuition, transport to Birmingham on the day of the concert, and all music required during the week.

For resident singers

The day also starts with a Warm Up Workshop at 9:00am and ends with a full programme of sporting and social activities each evening after supper.

The course fee includes all tuition, full board, use of sport and social facilities, transport to Birmingham on the day of the concert, and all music required during the week.
