If like me you have missed being able to play exciting music with other like-minded musicians, read on as we have just the tonic to beat the Covid blues!
The NSSO Big Band course at Malvern College is for all those musicians who have an interest in Big Band Jazz music, whether experienced or not. The idea is to inspire, encourage and help develop the skills of all those attending, and most importantly to have fun! The week will give all those attending an opportunity to perform in solo spots.
I am delighted to be working with an outstanding group of tutors, all of whom are very experienced Jazz and session players. It’s not every day that you that you have the opportunity to learn from those who play for Jamie Cullum, Kylie Minogue, Jools Holland and Snarky Puppy – this is your chance!
We are all looking forward to meeting this year’s band, keen to pass on our knowledge in workshops, sectional and full band rehearsals. There will be opportunities to develop all areas of your playing, reading and improvising, with a wide range of music; from well know Big Band swing arrangements to more contemporary Rock, Latin and Pop charts, there should be something for all tastes – from the original Satin Doll as performed by the Count Basie Orchestra, to music from Stevie Wonder, Bill Withers and Steely Dan.
Given the year we have had in the music industry, I am sure the highlight will be performing the grand finale concert at the end of the course demonstrating all we have learned together. Please do tell your musical friends and sign up for a fantastic week. There are just a few places remaining in the brass section and the rhythm section (piano, bass, guitar and kit).
