Long serving NSSO flautist, Christopher Hill, pictured at Derby Cathedral with his latest piece of silverware. You can read all about it on the Talent Unlimited website.
Young NSSO violinist Isabella Li, age 10, has had a busy Springtime, playing with the Cambridgeshire County Youth Orchestra and as a member of the county's Advanced String Performance programme recently played under the baton of Vladimir Ashkenazy. She also plays with NCO Easterlies and is a member of the National Youth Music Theatre currently preparing for a West End Gala attended by The Earl and Countess of Wessex.
Here's a sneak preview of the new, contemporary look to the clothing and back pack on offer this year.
You can still order yours if you've not done so yet.
A week before the Young NSSO course Keith will bring his Worcestershire Symphony Orchestra to play at Christ Church, Avenue Road, Malvern. The concert is at 7.30pm and features a number of its core players as soloists in various concertos as well as Haydn's Clock Symphony.
If you want to see him in action (and hear his orchestra) tickets are available at the door.
Olivia Condliffe, a pupil of Painsley Catholic College, joins NSSO this year playing bassoon, but she will be late for the first rehearsal! That's because she is playing in the Staffordshire Young Musician of the Year 2016 and the finals are on Sunday 10 July.
We wish her well and send congratulations on getting so far in the competition.
We are delighted to announce that Viscount Organs will be sponsoring the concerts on Sunday 17 July. There are important organ parts in the repertoire that both NSSO and Young NSSO will be playing this year and we are greatly indebted to the company for the loan of an instrument for the duration of the course.
By way of celebration NSSO will be tackling Saint-Saen's Symphony no 3 (The Organ Symphony) in the repertoire session on the evening of Thursday 14 July, when we will be joined again by Laurence John, who played the work recently at Hereford Cathedral with members of the CBSO. Laurence is a NSSO alumnus and took part in the 2015 Conductors' Course.
We should have mentioned earlier in the season that six of our NSSO 2015 alumni joined NYO this year and several others are taking part in the NYO Inspire programme.
Congratulations to them all!
The 2016 course is fast approaching and there are just five places to fill in NSSO: clarinet, trombone, percussion, harp and double bass.
Additional string players are always welcome too.
We invite applications until the end of June, using the form on our website.
Don't miss the opportunity to play The Pines of Rome and spend a week with other terrific teenage musicians in the wonderful surroundings of Malvern College.
